Se Guds Lamm – Parakletos (EP Review)

Hailing from Finland, Parakletos have not been very broadcasted into the lights of the metal world but, within their 14 year existence it’s a huge surprise that no one has really heard of the band. Starting out in 2004 and only with just two recordings throughout their whole career, firstly back in 2004 with their full length Offerlammets makt at Rivel Records (owned by Christian Liljegren of the Narnia fame). Until, beginning with their live appearance at Rainbow Rock in Sweden back in last April, a few more are taking notice. With their new three track EP Se Guds Lamm they do have some ears pricked up and are turning some heads. So let’s get on with it shall we??

The first track that kicks in is the title song “Se Guds Lamm (AD 2018)”, a melodic and atmospheric black metal combination with fast shrill guitars, grinding vocals and keys that just add the elements being conceived by what you would hear in the black metal genre these days. Very impressed with the updated sounds of black metal on this song.

“Manniskans Fall : Del 1” continues with the clear aspects of the recording, with fluid  guitars, and shrieks of intensity, heavy melodically across the board and with high energy.

Finally, the final track is a cover from Norwegian metal masters Antestor taken from the album Return Of The Black Death with a much more brutal rendition of “A Sovereign Fortress”. A sensational release from these guys. I can’t wait for another album.
