I’ll admit it—I’ve been sleeping on Intercessor. This Minneapolis-based Christian metal band has slipped under my radar, but Disillusionists just jolted me wide awake. These guys are no joke. From the first riff, it’s clear that Intercessor brings more than your standard heavy fare, throwing down intricate guitar work, pummeling grooves, and the kind of crisp production that elevates every crushing moment.
The EP doesn’t waste any time with the title track’s Disillusionists relentless pace. Tracks like Monolith showcase the band’s knack for complex compositions, weaving in intricate riffs and progressive touches that are as captivating as they are brutal. Then there’s The Borealis Effect, a track that balances melodic depth with aggressive riffage, throwing curveballs with unpredictable breakdowns that keep you on edge. By the time Dimensional Singularity kicks in, you’re submerged in their alloy of progressive metalcore and other genres, a relentless soundscape that’s as intense as it is carefully crafted.
What impresses here is how seamlessly they blend their influences. Intercessor doesn’t just dabble—they fully commit to their alloy of styles, making for an experience that feels both raw and refined. This isn’t just another entry in the metalcore lineup; Disillusionists feels like it’s reaching toward something bigger, pulling in progressive elements while hitting with the blunt force of hardcore.
For anyone into metalcore’s heavier, more ambitious side—or for deathcore fans looking to broaden their horizons—Disillusionists is worth your time. Intercessor is here, and they’re making a case to stay.
