Dust off your denim and prepare to thrash—because Martyr is back in the spotlight with Once Upon a Tale, a crushing throwback release that’s finally making its way to digital and streaming platforms. And it’s about time.
In a bold move to bring some long-lost underground heat to the masses, Broken Curfew Records has partnered with the veteran heavy-hitters over at Roxx Records to launch this collection of raw, remastered tracks on March 28, 2025.
Originally carved into the cassette-era Christian metal underground of the mid-’80s, Once Upon a Tale captures Martyr at their most primal—furious, gritty, and unfiltered. The release compiles some of the band’s earliest demos and previously unreleased material, remastered by Rob Colwell (Bombworks Sound) to hit with new force. The visual side also got a full revamp thanks to Scott Waters (NoLifeTilMetal Graphics), with additional liner notes and direction from Chris Ackerman.
“This release is about visibility,” says Seth Metoyer, owner of Broken Curfew Records. “We know streaming royalties still need a serious overhaul, but getting this music back into the world—and into the ears of a new generation—is what really matters. And we’re honored to work with Roxx to make it happen.”
In addition to the digital release, collectors can sink their teeth into a limited-edition gold/black swirl vinyl (only 200 copies) or a 12-page booklet CD (limited to 500)—both moving fast for obvious reasons.
Whether you’re a diehard from back in the day or just discovering this corner of Christian thrash history, Once Upon a Tale is worth cranking loud. This isn’t nostalgia—it’s resurrection with teeth.
